Am I pregnant?

around July 7, 2013

As newlyweds Farmer J and I were considering starting a family soon.  I had been using an ovulation calendar app for quite a while to keep us from getting pregnant.  But as the newlywed dust has settled we thought it may be the time to add another person to the mix.  We decided to try once and if the app was misleading, look into more vigorous NFP. My best friend had just gotten engaged, but without a wedding date in mind we thought we'd try once and just once.

Farmer J thought we wouldn't succeed on the first try.  I thought we would, his dad has 17 grandchildren they are a fertile bunch. So we tried. ONCE. The next month I was late, so I thought I definitely was. I would ask "don't you think I'm pregnant?" and he would say "no", so I went with it.  I didn't feel pregnant anyways. Maybe I was late because we had tried on the right day and my body was just figuring it out...."hmm, what to do with this thing floating around in here."

Turns out we are pregnant!

Ta-Da!

I'm not sure if I want to say "we're expecting" or "we're pregnant" or "I'm pregnant and it's all his fault".

Finding out you are pregnant is kind of like proposing.  It's this cool moment you get to share with your husband forever and you can cherish his reaction for the rest of your lives. Well, that would be the case if my husband wasn't so nosey!

Friday after work he bought a test at the local Dollar General. The lady behind the counter offered the $1 pregnancy test, but he told her he'd hear it if he came home with the $1 test, so he got the more expensive one. This test said to test in the morning and not to test after drinking a lot of liquid.  I had just drank a glass of tea and it was pushing 10 pm but I still took it anyways. It came back negative. When we looked closer, the control line on the test didn't show up...you know how scientists need a controlled data set.  Well this dollar store product didn't have one.  It was a dud :(  We went to bed, went to a wedding that Saturday and bought three tests at good ole' Walmart for Sunday morning.  I woke up early Sunday and went to the restroom and almost forgot to take the test! My Kegel exercises came in handy as I hurriedly unwrapped the test and wizzed away. (TMI? sorry) It came back positive.  I wanted to crawl back into bed and dream up the many ways I could tell my husband, but when I got out of the bathroom he was already out of bed.

"Well, are you pregnant? I heard you take the test."
"I'm not telling you"
"Why won't you tell me"
"Your birthday is in three days, you can wait until then"
"So you are pregnant?"
"Maybe, or maybe your birthday present is that you were actually right for once."
"I doubt that, you're pregnant, just tell me!"

I didn't tell him.  I really wanted to surprise him and have it on camera and everything.  I'm stubborn.
He is just as stubborn because for the rest of the day he wouldn't let up about it!  He kept testing me "well, let's go get a drink! Or can you not drink because you are pregnant??" and "what do you want for dinner, any special cravings??"

Finally we were in mass at 5pm on Sunday and the choir was singing "Hail Mary Gentle Woman" and I just felt it would be good to tell him at mass surrounded by God and his angels.  So at the Sign of Peace I whispered in his ear "I'm pregnant".

His response: "I knew it!"

And let me tell you he turned into the most caring and even more protective man from that moment on.  He keeps touching my stomach, sorry dear that's just fat.  He keeps asking how I feel. I dunno, this being pregnant thing may be a good thing for us.

I just DREAD the weight I will gain over the next nine months. We have vowed to walk the dogs EVERY night to keep from getting lazy and being unhealthy.

I was able to surprise him with donuts and a onesie on his birthday morning.

"Rad like Dad"
It was as gender neutral as I could find..

The Power of Pinterest

Does Pinterest get you out of bed every morning?  I'm not asking if it motivates you to log in to Pinterest and sit at the computer all day.  I mean, does it inspire your creativity in the kitchen or the garage?  Does it push you to be a better person, to pray more or work out more?

It helps me in all of the above, and then some!  With one month until the wedding I ran to my Pinterest board 'My Other Strechy Pants' for some relaxation motivation.

Here's what I've been doing every morning to stretch out the wedding nightmares and begin a day full of e-mails, RSVP counting and final check writing.

What are some of your morning routines?  What are you favorite yoga practices?

2013 Making Things Happen part 2

Hello again!

Let's talk goal setting for 2013 again.  Did you do the first part?  Do it before this next part, it won't take long.

And while I'm paraphrasing from Lara's blog, please go read her blog, she writes beautifully and explains everything very well.

She has a great point in this 2nd part: "I am not in control, God is." Meaning: don't beat yourself up if your list from part 1 was a lot of "wish I did" and not a lot of "I did".

Now Steps 4 - 6

STEP FOUR: What are the three biggest lessons you learned from what DID work?
  1. If I do what I love I will get it done.
  2. If I communicate with J (and others) on why I want/need to do something the decision doesn't feel like a burden, it feels like a community effort.
  3. If I can't love myself, I won't see the love others have for me.

STEP FIVE: What are the three biggest things you learned from what DIDN'T work

These are not my answers, they are Lara Casey's and they are perfect.  Read them below or here on her blog (scroll down to below Step 5)

1. Worry and stress got you nowhere and just wasted a whole lot of time.

2. Busy is the opposite of happy. Too many projects spreads you thin. Slow down. Don't plan so much this year. Do less and do it very well, with great passion.

3. My favorite Bible verse: He who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins. - James 4:17 Work hard at doing good always. Humble yourself. Give your authentic heart to the people right in front of you.

STEP SIX: What is your 2013 VISION

Lara asked herself these three questions (the answers are mine):

- Where do you want to be when you are 80? Surrounded by family and friends.  Proud of my children as they are serving as good citizens of the nation and the Church.  More calm and at peace than I am today.

- Why do you do what you do? Because I don't have any tangible things to give.  I give what I can, my time (in prayer), my talent (in service and work) and my treasure (which is 10% of my measly paycheck).  And I give it all everyone in need.  Family, friends, the church, the poor, the stranger, etc.

- What kind of life do you want to live this year?  I want to live this year as the best version of myself I can be.

MY VISION FOR 2013:
I cannot give what I do not have; I must pay down loans in order to share more with others.
I cannot give what I do not have; I must pray for patience and compassion in order to give unconditional love to all.
I cannot give what I do not have; must remain a Woman of God striving to be saint-like in order to find what the best version of myself is and I must begin sharing that best version immediately!
There is no right time to do the right thing.

Why do I love Social Media?

Sure it is distracting.
It can be addicting.
Some people choose to share hate not love.

But sometimes, and I'm honored to say in the crowd I roll with from San Antonio there is a community.  A community of moms, dads, young adults, millionaires and poor college kids who come together.  I met this group at BMPR The Business Media Public Relations Meet up.  (Did that link work for you? It didn't work for me).

And one member of this organization reached out to other organization members and did an amazing act in response to Jessica Ghawi's death in Aurora.  Jessica is a San Antonio local who deserves to be surrounded by friends and family as she is buried this weekend.

If you really knew me

Presenting 'If you Really knew me'

inspired by Texas Tanners and The Vintage Apple

If you REALLY knew me you would know...

I plan weddings over at Kellar Concepts.com

I've never lived outside of Texas, but if the drought comes we're out of here

I do not like to eat pork (that means I don't like bacon *gasp!)

I know nothing about soccer even though my family plays on the professional and college level (Go Bulldogs!)

I shoulda, coulda, might still go to dental school

I love all things social media

I've never dyed my hair and I never plan to

I hate scary movies because of what I think they do to society
Aurora and zombie apocalypse, don't we have better things to talk about and do with our time? Like help make the world a better place

Most of the time I take myself too seriously

I also hate movies where children or animals die just because I'm a softy

I prefer to see the good in someone rather than the bad

I trust my gut

I had an imaginary friend growing up and his name was Uncle John, I think he is my guardian angel

I believe and treasure childhood innocence, it is a precious gift every child deserves

I want to craft more!!

I can't wait to be a farmers wife!

What do I not know about you???
